Our next beer festival is looming and as per usual we’ve decided to theme the selection of beers. Not one to make things easy I’ve set myself the challenge of brewing as many of the beers as I can. Thankfully we have great relationships with many of our local breweries and five in particular have agreed to let me loose in their brew houses… so if all goes to plan I’ll have had my hand in the production of at least five of the beers on sale at our spring beer festival.
Fergus, Head Brewer at Adnams has kindly agreed I can spend the day with him when he brews this years special Jubilee Ale; Tom at the new Colchester Brewery is even allowing me to help choose the recipe we brew; I’ll be visiting Mauldons and Crouch Vale when they brew one of the seasonal beers and no doubt be put to work digging out their Mash Tuns; despite my previous visit to Red Fox Brewery, Russ has still agreed that I can come back and help brew his first ever Black IPA (Foxymoron?).
I’m amassing a collection of rather special beers in my little private beer cellar stash and I have decided who better to share them with than a load of brewers. So on each visit I’ll be taking something along to enjoy with our breakfast/brunch/lunch (delete as appropriate!). In the meantime I’ll be blogging about each of the brew days and the beers we share. During the festival the rest of our beer list will be made up with other beers from these five superb local breweries.
There will of course be some live music at some point over the weekend, a beer & food matching evening (Saturday) and hopefully we’ll be presented with our certificate for Colchester & North Essex CAMRA Pub of the Year 2012 too!
