It has been just over two years since I left rural Essex and moved back to London to immerse myself more fully in the cities burgeoning craft beer scene. Being at the helm of The Bull for London Brewing Co has been an incredible opportunity and has certainly helped me to achieve my initial goal. As well as running the iconic brewpub I have been fortunate enough to run events with stunning breweries such as Rogue, beer dinners with fantastic people such as Jo Miller, Adrian Tierney-Jones and Will Hawkes and get involved with organisations like There’s a Beer for That and running the bars for Stokey Lit Fest. Being part of this small company as it has slowly expanded from brewpubs into brewery sales has also been a fabulous experience. Involved in the opening of our second site, brewery installation, re-branding, beer development, sales, marketing and events I have accumulated a wealth of experience which wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Dan, Senan & Nick from London Brewing Co.
The involvement in the other aspects of London Brewing Co has opened my eyes to new possibilities. Pubs have been a huge part of my life for over 18 years, but I feel now is the time to step away from day to day management and focus my skills in other areas of the drinks and hospitality industry. Sadly there isn’t scope to do this within London Brewing at the moment and as The Bull has been sold and is embarking on its own new chapter I felt this was the right time to see what else might be out there. I owe an incredible to amount to London Brewing Co, especially Dan Fox for trusting me with the business and giving me scope to develop The Bull as well as my own skills outside of pub management. Hopefully I’ll be able to make a step towards utilising my trainimg, marketing and operations experience from the past 10 years, alongside my love of great drinks and food, to take a new direction.
I am unsure exactly what the future will bring for me for now, but I am excited and open to suggestions!
Meanwhile on my first official day without a pub I’ll be judging beer at the International Beer Challenge #toughlife
